Wendell Edwards

Bio

As the Safeguards and Security director at Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL), Wendell Edwards is responsible for overseeing physical security, classification, and nuclear material control and accountability.

Edwards has 34 years of combined experience with physical security and law enforcement. Before joining SRNL, Edwards supported NA-23 Non-Proliferation Surplus Plutonium Disposition as the security subject matter expert. He also managed Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS) Physical Security representatives and the Vulnerability Assessment Team. Edwards was instrumental in the security work to support the first Surplus Plutonium Disposition (SPD) shipment to the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant.

Before SRNS, Edwards worked with Wackenhut Services Inc./Centerra as a safety lieutenant overseeing safety concerns and as a physical fitness instructor, responsible for all aspects of physical fitness training. Edwards was also a patrol supervisor with the Aiken Department of Public Safety. Wendell is also an active member of the American College of Sports Medicine, and the Savannah River Site Local Insider Threat Working Group.

Edwards has a Bachelor of Arts in sociology and criminal justice from Claflin University. He also holds an exercise physiologist certification from the American College of Sports Medicine, and safety and health management certification from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
