Deputy Associate Laboratory Director Global Security

Bio

Thad Adams is the deputy associate laboratory director and chief operating officer for the Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) Global Security directorate. In this role, he focuses on keeping the nation and world safe by solidifying and advancing a strong culture of operational excellence, safety and security to promote effective and efficient execution of Global Security missions and programs.

Adams previously served SRNL as the division director for Plutonium Technology with a focus on the design, development and demonstration of plutonium manufacturing technologies to support the establishment of the Savannah River Plutonium Processing Facility at the Savannah River Site. He also served as the director for Strategic Development and Innovation where he worked to promote advanced manufacturing both within SRNL and externally within the states of South Carolina and Georgia.

With more than 25 years of professional experience in materials research and development, Adams is an expert in physical metallurgy of special nuclear materials, advanced nuclear fuel development and testing, spent nuclear fuel storage and disposal, and materials for hydrogen and hydrogen isotope service. He is an author of more than 40 technical papers and reports related to materials development and testing.

Adams has a Bachelor of Science in materials science and engineering from the University of Tennessee, as well as a Master of Science and a Doctor of Philosophy in materials science and engineering from the University of Florida.
