Bio

Deborah Bowling is the chief Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) officer at Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL). Bowling leads SRNL’s strategy to strengthen DEIA programs and advance the laboratory’s efforts to foster a respectful and inclusive culture that reflects diversity, promotes equity, and builds community.

Bowling has over 25 years of experience as an inclusion strategist, with 18 years working in the DOE national lab system. Prior to joining SRNL, Bowling held the positions of director for the Diversity and International division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and senior manager at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. In these positions, she developed inclusion and diversity initiatives and led equal employment opportunity and compliance programs. In addition to her roles at Department of Energy’s national laboratories, Bowling held various leadership roles in the green building construction industry.

Bowling holds a Master of Jurisprudence in labor and employment law from Tulane Law School and a Bachelor of Arts from Indiana University. She holds a professional certification from the University of South Florida Muma College of Business in diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy, is a certified investigator for harassment, discrimination, and retaliation, and is a certified Prosci Change Management professional.

Bowling was the recipient of the U.S. Department of Energy recognition for Excellence in Diversity Programs, the Denver Chamber of Commerce Diversity Leaders Award, and is a working member of the National Académie of Science coalition for the advancement of women of color in technology.
